The U.S. Senate recently confirmed two of President Trump’s nominees for top posts at the Department of Labor. On March 10, it confirmed former Oregon Representative Lori Chavez-DeRemer as the Secretary of Labor in a 67 to 32 vote. On March 12, it confirmed former EEOC Commissioner Keith Sonderling as the Deputy Secretary of Labor in a 53 to 46 vote.

Chavez-DeRemer began her public service in Happy Valley, Oregon, near Portland. Beginning in 2002, she served on the Happy Valley Parks Committee and later on the Happy Valley City Council. She was elected Mayor in 2010, and in 2022, she was elected to Congress representing Oregon’s Fifth Congressional District. Chavez-DeRemer has a degree in business administration from California State University, Fresno. She and her husband co-founded an anesthesia management company and opened several medical clinics in the Pacific Northwest.

Sonderling previously served as Commissioner and Vice Chair of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and as Acting Director of DOL’s Wage and Hour Division.
