The Center for Workplace Compliance (CWC), our affiliated nonprofit membership association, has issued an update of state and local workplace requirements.

Many developments relate to wage and hour topics:

  • Michigan SB 8 increased the state’s minimum wage to $12.48. It will continue to increase annually until reaching $15 in 2027, after which it will be adjusted annually for inflation.
  • Michigan HB 4002 implemented employer-friendly changes to its Earned Sick Time Act.
  • Ohio’s Pay Stub Protection Act requires employers to provide pay statements that include specified information about wages and work hours.
  • St. Paul, Minn.’s Wage Theft Ordinance requires covered employers to provide written information to each new hire about their pay rate and accruals of paid time off.

Other developments include:

  • Oregon increased the salary threshold to $116,427 for subjecting an employee to a non-compete agreement.
  • New York state delayed the effective date for its Retail Worker Safety Act from March 4 to June 2. Recent amendments mandate that employers with fewer than 50 retail employees train employees in workplace violence prevention at hiring and every two years thereafter, while employers with more than 50 retail employees must train workers annually.
